RF Calf Muscle Reduction (This procedure is only conducted in Bangkok)

How does it work?

The procedure is done under local anaethesia. We use small needles attached to the RF generator to ablate the muscle of the lateral and medial gastrocnemius. These muscle make the calf bulky and gives the egg shape at the inner calves. They are not essential of muscle function of the calves as they usually provide only 20% of the muscular power. These ablations are done using about 5 injections on each calf (each measuring 0.1-0.2 cm) and with time, they will not be visible.

After procedure

You will be able to walk after the procedure although the calves will be sore. The sensation has been described by some patients as the leg soreness experienced after a marathon. For the 1st 1-2 weeks after op, the soreness will gradually improve. You will not need to take leave from work. But if your work is not office based and you need to walk  alot then we would recommend resting for 3-5 days. There will be some bruising after the op which will resolve in 2 – 8 weeks.

We can achieve reduction of 2-4 cm in diameter per calf after this procedure after 2-4 months.

Post-care treatment

We provide a calf stocking to all patients to reduce the soreness and aid in recovery. Most patients wear that almost all the time for the 1st month. The small injections will recover very fast in 1-2 weeks. There will be no incisions and thus the risk of scaring is low.

Clinical Study

There is a clinical paper published on this procedure by Dr Park Young Jin, Plastic Surgeon in Seoul, Korea. We have been trained by him and the procedure done is very similiar.
